Dance4Life

On Saturday 12th December, The Hub hosted Dance4Life – an HIV/AIDS awareness fun day for young people in Morija and its surrounding areas. Participants earned raffle tickets by getting tested for HIV and taking part in a range of educational carnival-style games. The crowd enjoyed performances by T-Mech, Magic In Progress, Muhjestik Thamae, and Urban Slayers. We had great raffle prizes on offer! November 18 – Women In Resistance

Women in Resistance was a traveling exhibition, that was displayed at Alliance Francaise in March 2015, dedicated to women around the world who exist, resist, argue, survive and rebuild.

Vodacom mWomen sponsored portraits of ‘women in resistance’ in Lesotho to be added to the exhibition in March. Following the exhibition, Vodacom mWomen ensured each of the women’s inspiring stories were translated into Sesotho and will be formally housed at Morija Museum & Archives as of the 18th November.

The goal of the exhibition aims to raise awareness about the principles of equality between men and women, justice, labour, HIV and the rights of women amongst others. The exhibition shall be accessible to the general community at large but activities aimed at encouraging school goers in the Morija area to engage with the themes illustrated through the exhibition will be established.

Early next year, members of The Hub will get a chance to add onto the exhibition with Morija’s own women in resistance.

Introducing Job-Ready-Fridays at The Hub!

The Hub is happy to announce that in November 2015 we will be launching Job-Ready-Fridays! They days with special activities geared at providing our members with skills, motivation and inspiration!

Job-Ready-Fridays will take place every Friday. The day will be split into two main sections:

Skills Sessions will be held from 11am to 2pm. The sessions will cover a wide range of topics, including financial literacy, entrepreneurship, goal setting, preparing for the world of work, money management, and presentation and leadership skills. These sessions are open to members of The Hub, who will need to register in advance, as space will be limited.

Hub Talks will be held from 3pm to 5pm. These talks will feature invited guest speakers, all of whom are accomplished and up-and-coming Basotho working in a variety of fields, ranging from the arts to entrepreneurship. The speakers will present the work they do, their accomplishments, and how they have overcome any challenges they’ve faced in the past. Each talk will be followed by an open Q&A session. Hub Talks will not be restricted to members of The Hub – anybody is free to come and listen!

Introducing the first two Hub Talks speakers:

November 13: Lineo Segoete – Director of Ba Re E Ne Re Literature Festival

“Ba re e ne re aims to revive a culture and appreciation of creative writing in Lesotho and the response so far has been motivating and inspires us to do more. The challenges we face however, range from de-stigmatizing literature in Sesotho as many young people complain about the difficulty experienced when reading the language, to poor access to publications as distribution is very limited.” – Lineo Segoete

November 20: Bokang Kheekhe – Co-Founder of Basutoland Ink Clothing

“There is definitely a need for more entrepreneurs in Lesotho. And when I say entrepreneurs, I am not talking about tenderpreneurs, people need to understand that there is a difference between the two. Entrepreneurs are game changers in the growing of our economy; they are the key element in the growth of our country.” – Bokang Kheekhe
