From May 25-26, 2019 The Hub hosted Pheello Pj Makosholo for a workshop to shoot our first music video for ‘Power/Control’! The song was written during a workshop on song writing for change, led by Siphiwe Nzima Nts’ekhe, Meloh & O.G. S’killz. Participants were led on exercises on writing and performing, while examining issues around gender and patriarchy.
Since March 2018, we’ve been attending a series of workshops on Non Profit Sustainability, which ended in April 2019. The Social Enterprise Academy delivered a learning programme with group sessions and individual coaching that will enable nonprofits to build resilience, capacity and sustainability of the organisation, enabling them continue to make social impact into the long term. Special thanks to Khwezi Fudu, Social Enterprise Academy South Africa, and Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa for the opportunity and lessons learned!
From April 13-14, 2019 The Hub hosted poet/rapper/activist Sadon for a weekend workshop on creative writing and song writing. He led participants on writing exercises with the theme ‘Future of Lesotho’, and we’re excited about the monumental pieces written during this workshop!
Special thanks to Sadon for sharing his time and skills with us, and to Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa and Glasswaters Foundation for partnering with us on this project.
From March 18-31, 2019, The Hub hosted Namibia’s leading Media and Information Literacy Learning Initiative – MiLLi* – for Summer School. 8 participants were certified as MiLLi* facilitators, and led their first 3-day Youth Project workshop teaching Power to Empower, giving participants the chance to gain a deeper understanding and knowledge about the features and dynamics of social media:
Access and use various types of social media
Understand the role of media in society and critically assess it
Be aware of ethical standards of media output, research, and its presentation
Educate & Empower all members of society when it comes to information and knowledge
Be able to express ones opinion, share content, and spread news
The Hub now has two certified facilitators, with Sbi and Thabo taking part in the training. Ts’episo and Liteboho documented the workshop series with video, releasing a 30 second recap each day on social media. See the videos below:
