Stone Aged Souls

Stone Aged Souls is the reflection behind the mirror, the song before the composition, the story which can never be told. Formed in 2010 by visual artist Tawanda thebrownman Mhandu (Zim) and singer-songwriter Joel Karabo Elliott (USA/RSA), the Stone Aged Souls are an arts ensemble growing roots for the afrikan diaspora. Human becomings call to human beings to remember human beginnings. The vision of beginnings was to bring three art-forms together — music, poetry and sand-sketching — so that each could speak through the other and tell the stories of diaspora journeys. The forested mountains of Magoebaskloof in Limpopo province of South Africa and the rural spaces and villages across the land have provided many a muse and teacher. Since 2012, singer-poet Dennias Mashegwane (RSA) of The Afro Dennias Show has joined and guided the ensemble in tilling more ancient soil. All for the sake of the essence before appearance.

Alliance Française de Maseru brought these artists to Lesotho in April. Check out the Stone Aged Souls website – www.stoneagedsouls.com
